Scorekeeper Guide
How to use Quick Entry, manage rounds, control the timer, and keep the tournament running smoothly.
Scorekeeper Role
The scorekeeper is responsible for entering match results, managing round timing, and ensuring the tournament progresses smoothly. The main tools are:
- Quick Entry β A dedicated page for rapid result entry using keyboard, barcode, or manual input.
- Pairings Tab β The standard admin view for managing pairings, with drag-and-drop editing and full control.
- Timer β Round clock visible to all participants, synchronized in real-time.
Quick Entry
Quick Entry is the fastest way to enter results. Access it from the tournament admin navigation:
The page is divided into three areas:
- Top Info Bar β Player counts, round tabs, timer display, report counter ("X / Y reported"), and actions dropdown.
- Panels β Two scrollable columns: "Not Reported" (amber) and "Reported" (green). Click any row to select a pairing.
- Entry Bar β At the bottom: mode selector (Hotkey / Scorelock / Manual / Barcode) and input area.
Choose the entry method that best fits your setup:
Hotkey Mode
The fastest entry method β ideal for scorekeepers with a keyboard or numeric keypad.
How It Works
- Type the table number (e.g., "5") and press Enter.
- The matchup card appears showing both players.
- Press a number key (1-9) to apply the corresponding outcome.
- The result is instantly submitted and the input clears, ready for the next table.
Outcome Grid (Numpad Layout)
The available outcomes are displayed as a grid matching the numpad layout. For a Best-of-3 tournament:
Keys 7-8-9 (top row) = bottom row of grid. Keys 1-2-3 = top row of grid.
Keyboard Shortcuts
- 1-9 β Apply the corresponding outcome.
- Enter / Tab β Select the typed table number.
- Escape β Deselect the current pairing and clear the input.
Scorelock Mode
Lock a specific score, then apply it to multiple tables in sequence β perfect when many tables finish with the same result.
How It Works
- Click an outcome button to lock it (e.g., "2-0"). It becomes highlighted in accent color.
2-0 2-1 Draw
- Type a table number and press Enter.
- The locked score is automatically applied β no second step needed.
- The input clears and you can immediately enter the next table number.
Note: If the table already has a result, you will be asked to confirm before overwriting.
Barcode Mode
Use a barcode scanner (or camera) to scan match slips. The system recognizes two barcode formats:
Table Barcode (Draw)
Scanning a table barcode automatically applies a draw result. Format: {tournamentId}D{tableNumber}
Player Barcode (Winner)
Scanning a player barcode applies the locked winner score to that player. Format: {tournamentId}P{playerId}
- First, select a "Winner Score" (e.g., 2-0 or 2-1).
- Scan the winning player's barcode.
- The system detects if the scanned player is Player 1 or Player 2 and applies the result accordingly.
Tip: Print match slips with barcodes for each table and player. Players circle the winner and bring the slip to the scorekeeper for scanning.
Manual Mode
For non-standard results or when you need precise control over the score.
How It Works
- Type the table number and press Enter to select the pairing.
- Enter the scores manually in three fields:
P1 2-P2 1-D 0
- Press Enter or click the checkmark to submit.
Tab moves between the P1, P2, and Draw fields. Enter from any field submits the result.
Round Management Workflow
Here is the complete workflow for managing each round:
1. Generate the Round
From the Actions dropdown, click "Generate Next Round". The system creates pairings using the appropriate algorithm.
2. Publish Pairings
If pairings are not automatically published, click "Show Pairings" in the Actions dropdown. Players will then see their table assignment.
3. Start the Timer
Start the round timer from the sidebar. The timer is synchronized across all devices and appears on player screens and the Mirror Display.
4. Collect Results
Use Quick Entry to enter results as they come in. The "Not Reported" panel shows remaining matches. The counter at the top tracks progress: "X / Y reported".
5. Complete the Round
Once ALL results are in (the counter shows 100%), click "Complete Round". This triggers standings recalculation.
Important: You cannot complete a round until all pairings have a result. The button is disabled while results are missing.
6. Repeat or Complete Phase
After completing a round, you can generate the next one. When all planned rounds are done, a "Complete Phase" button appears. If there is a next phase, you can also click "Advance to" to complete the current phase and start the next one.
Actions Menu
The Actions dropdown (top-right) provides all round management options:
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Generate Next Round | Create pairings for the next round. |
| Complete Round | Finalize the current round and recalculate standings. |
| Show / Hide Pairings | Toggle pairing visibility for players. |
| Show / Hide Standings | Toggle standings visibility for players. |
| Edit Pairings | Open a panel to manually swap or adjust pairings. |
| Recreate Pairings | Delete and regenerate all pairings for the round. Use with caution. |
| Delete Round | Remove the entire round. Use with caution. |
| Match Slips | Open a printable view of match slips with barcodes. |
| Export CSV | Download pairings and results as a CSV file. |
Timer Management
The round timer is managed from the sidebar navigation. It is synchronized in real-time via WebSocket across all connected devices.
Timer Controls
- Set Minutes β Configure the duration before starting (default: 50 minutes).
- Start β Begin the countdown.
- Pause / Resume β Temporarily stop and restart the timer.
- Stop β End the timer completely.
Color Coding
The timer display is visible on the Quick Entry page, the Player Portal, the Judge View, and the Mirror Display (for large screen projection at the venue).
